Equipment

The Crane

Over the shoulder camera

The Dolly

We had a lesson where we focused on putting all of the cameras together and learnt how to use each of the apparatus. We had a look at the crane, the dolly and the over the shoulder camera. This lesson was vey useful because it enabled us to go out and use the cameras straight away. This was also a helpful lesson because it meant that we could start filming our opening sequences whenever we wanted.

Book of Eli

We were asked to re-create an opening act from the film 'The book of Eli'. We were given this task having not seen the actual film, this gave us a good idea to work from what was written down from a script for us to re-create, we did this in groups where we spread the roles of acting, filming and editing between us. As you can see, I had one of the acting roles. This task was helpful as it allowed us to explore the creative way from looking at a script.

Target Audience Survey

As my target audience is a similar age to me, I decided to post a survey on my Facebook page in order to get some feedback from a reasonable number of people. The questions asked are published above. After a couple of hours of letting people answer my survey, the most common results that I obtained where, that they were mainly male withing the ages of 18-20 and the two most common favourite film genres were drama and comedy.
From these results, I was able to go away and think about what sort of genre I was going to base my film on, I had the choice between action/drama and comedy and in the end I decided to go for an actioned/drama based genre.

After Effects & Screen Shots

After Effects

Screen Shots

I used after effects on the introduction of Mission Impossible 3. This was great practice for when I come to use the after effects application for my own opening sequence. I found this particular effect was very useful as I was able to add in dialogue such as actors names and film titles.

Story Board, Animatic & Feedback

Animatic

Feedback from the class

Overall I was quite happy with the feedback I got from my classmates over my animatic. The main improvement that I had to carry out was to include some dialogue for things like actors and producers names. I was happy that my classmates were able to understand my storyline and enjoyed my sound effects. With a few adjustments to my animatic I believe that it can be a successful one.

Kill Bill Screen Shot

I like this shot as it blends two scenes into one image. It shows dead bodies lying on the floor from one scene, then it also shows different people walking into the room unaware of how the deaths had happened. I think this is a good image as i like the idea of how it looks like an investiagtion into the deaths is about to occur. I really like the low angled camera shot focusing on the actors feet as it shows the importance of the men walking into the room. It lets the audience know who the main actors are.

This screen shot is fascinating as it shows a real close up on one of the main actors face. His facial expressions are interesting as his eyes show that he is focused on somthing  in the distance, but he also looks like he is concerned about somthing. I think that the black and white effect makes the shot more interesting as well as it makes the face the main focus point in this shot and at the same time, it also brings out more detail in the actors face.

This shot looks very basic as it shows a woman talking to herself whilst she is driving, this is portrayed by the long camera shot to set the scene, but her facial expressions tell a completely different story. She looks like she is in a rush to get somewhere as her face looks very determined. She looks so determined it comes accross as if he is going to take revenge on someone.

This shot carries on the story from the previous image, but this camera shot has been taken closer to the actors face to reveal more facial expressions. This image shows the translation from the woman being determined to take revenge in the previous image to now being more held back as she gets closer to her destination. Her facial expressions now look as if she is having second thoughts about what she had planned to do, this is shown in her eyes and mouth as she looks slightly worried.

I like this image because it tells the ending of the story that was created in my previous screen shots. The image of her being on the floor injured with blood everywhere shows that her plan backfired on her. Another aspect of this image that i like is the black and white effect used as it makes the blood on her face and on the floor next to her head look more gruesome.

Kill Bill Introduction

Man On Fire Screen Shots

I like this screen shot because it tells the audience what genre film it is going to be straight away. The close up of the gun reveals that the film is going to have lots of action in it relating to lots of violence.

What i like about this screen shot is the person holding the gun looks like a shadow because of the pitch black outline of the person that is used. The use of the black in the image makes the scene look more interesting as it makes the man stand out more, which makes the gun the main focus point in the shot.

This shot is interesting because of the black and white camera effects used. Having these effects makes the shot far more exciting in comparison to having just normal coloured hands in the scene. It makes the hands stand out and look as if they are being watched by someone.

I really like this shot because it shows that whoever owns the objects on the table is a very powerful person in this film. The sum of money alongside the weapons on the table reveal that someone has great intentions to either get someone to do a job for them, or do it themself.

I like this image because it shows an investigation scene after an event has occured. The long camera shot sets the scene showing that people have been injured and it also shows part of what caused the incident where the fire is.
I really like this shot because it shows one of the powerful characters in the film walking away from an explosion in which he has caused. The low angled camera shot also reveals his importance by the way the camera looks up at him.

Screen Shot. Shawshank Redemption

This screen shot is an extreme close up on the character. His face shows concern and it looks like he is in shock, this is shown by his facial expression and how he is stood up. It also shows a slight high angle and looks down on him, this displays that he is unimportant to the judge or people surrounding him.

I like this image because it displays a high angled shot which shows that he is low in power and is being put on trial, this is done by the camera looking down on the character who is singled out in the middle of the room. This shot also shows a long shot as well as the angle shot which sets the scene and highlights that he is in a serious court case.

This long shot is used well in this image to set the scene, it shows that the film is going to be set in a massive prison with hundreds of people locked up there. This long shot is also good because it shows to everyone how basic a prison is and that there is very little to do there. This shot also looks like there is very little colour in the picture which represents a dull/boring prison

I like this shot because it shows how insignificant the prisoners are whilst they are in the prison. This shot shows a gaurd punching one of the prisoners in the stomach, this shows that the gaurds treat the prisoners like dirt, but it also highlights that one gaurd has a lot more power than the hundreds of prisoners in the prison.

This shot is really good because it really shows how dominant the prison gaurds are whilst they are doing their jobs. The low angled shot looks up to the gaurds showing their power and also the fact that they are carrying weapons shows their significance compared to the prisoners. I also like how the gaurds are patroling as a group past all of the cells to scare the prisoners, which makes them behave. The way the gaurds are in a group shows gives off a message to the prisoners that they are very powerful and that they aren't to be messed with.
